Longtime SHVFR Chief Bill Halstead was formally announced on May 10 as the Grand Marshal for the 2019 Newtown Labor Day Parade.
This year's parade will step off at 10 am from Main Street at Currituck Road. The parade route will follow its traditional path: south on Main Street to its intersection with Glover Avenue (at the Glover-Sugar Street-Main Street-South Main Street four-way intersection), turning onto Glover, crossing Glover, and then turning onto Queen Street. Marchers will pass the Judges' Stand set up in front of Bank of America, and then conclude their march at the intersection of Queen Street and Church Hill Road.
The theme of this year’s parade, according to Line of March Coordinator Melissa Kopcik, is “Volunteers Keeping Our Community Strong.”
The choice of Chief Halstead for Grand Marshal, she told The Newtown Bee last week, was because “he’s done so much. We wanted to honor him properly.”

While Connecticut Motor Vehicle laws do not require motorists to pull over to the right, please be courteous and let them pass.
Remember: The faster we can get to the scene of a fire, an accident or a medical call, the sooner we can save lives. After all, you wouldn't want anyone to delay our response time if you needed to call 911, would you?
When you see the blue light, move to the right.
