Structure Fire In Botsford Displaces Two (Friday, January 3, 2025)
Sandy Hook VFR, along with all other Newtown companies, was dispatched at 21:34 January 3 to a home in Botsford’s district on a report of flames coming from the chimney there and the home filling with smoke. A Botsford firefighter was on scene within three minutes and confirmed a working fire.
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a paramedic were added to the call at that time, per structure fire protocol.
The two residents of the home were able to escape without injury.
Heavy fire was soon showing from the second floor and through the roof. Tankers were used to shuttle water.
Sandy Hook Tankers 9 and 449 and Engine 441, with crews, were among the responding apparatus. Engine 442 responded to the main station with a crew.
Southbury sent a crew to our main station to assist with standby. Bethel and Stepney also did the same for Dodgingtown and Botsford, respectively. Newtown Public Works sent a sand truck to the scene due to icing conditions.
The fire was knocked down in approximately one hour. Firefighters remained on the scene doing additional overhaul until 0125.
Eversource, JP Maguire and the American Red Cross also responded to the scene. The couple has been temporarily displaced from their home, but firefighters were able to salvage many personal items for them.
